Katharina Thomas weaves threads of fairy tales, thoughts, travelogues, photos and reports about her work and life into her book. What emerges is an enchanting work on textile fabrics as well as the life in the true sense. The author appears as a creator, traveler, narrator and, of course, also an adventurer who takes us into her world. “GEWEBE – Tapestry of Life” is a book for leafing through, reading, fetching, thinking, and inspiring.

After “Felt”, a fantastic retrospective of various felt artists and felt artists, this volume by Katharina Thomas also inspires me. Tapestry of Life is touching, tells wonderful stories and shows unique pictures. Even the trailer for the book had something magical, captivating … But the picture book is truly gorgeous, lets me dive – truly a small treasure.

Felt in the broadest sense is the theme of this book. It is not about instructions, but about the most varied and great (in the truest sense of the word) works of art from different materials of the author. “Fabric” is the main theme, also figuratively, because there is a worldwide felt network where traditions from all continents regularly meet for a common exchange. Friendships from Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Japan, Hungary etc. are interwoven – it is taught and learned mutually. Beautiful pictures show the extraordinary results. Even non-filmmakers learn to marvel! The author weaves in her sensitive text with fairy tales, travel, encounters, friendships, life stages a colorful, ornate rug, with which one likes to be enveloped.
